Return, O Holy Dove, Return

O Father, may Thy Spirit divine

come sanctify, hone, and refine:

this wayward heart, again incline;

its tangled, rasping strains untwine.

I, in Thy holy pastures, graze

and pluck the prunings of Thy ways,

yet woodenly contrive Thee praise.

O send Thy Dove to succor me!

Bind up these tendrils, this my plea;

my songs, imbue Thine artistry,

that, consummate, may wing to Thee.
