Am I ready now, O Lord,
ready to be free,
ready not to be long for this world,
but to see eternity unfurled?
Am I ready now, O Lord,
just to soar to Thee,
just to let these cares all drop away,
set my gaze toward Thy peerless day?
Make me ready, holy Lord,
eager would I be,
earnest for Thy glory to be shone,
longing to belong to Thee alone!

"Few of us, I think, live daily on the edge of eternity in the conscious way that the Puritans did...the extraordinary vivacity, even hilarity... stemmed directly, I believe, from the unflinching, matter-of-fact realism with which they prepared them-selves for death, so as always to be found, as it were, packed up and ready to go."
-- J.I. Packer, Quest for Godliness
titled from "Blessed Assurance"
