One Little Word Shall Fell Him

one little Word breathed out all life,
formed man and wife;
in one Creation pure and bright
ended the night:
"let there be light!"
-------
one little Word grieved at their lies,
He cursed to die;
a sordid Fall; formed from the dust,
thus to become:
"what have you done?"
-------
one little Word, heaven forsook,
sin's mantle took;
Redemption wrested; damned, death's tide,
with ichor welling from His side;
hell's champion felled, his realm diminished:
"it is finished!"
-------
one little Word, the skies, shall rend;
the Son, adorned in light, descend;
earth's mantle melt and mountains roil,
its oceans froth and fountains boil;
forth, from beyond night's farthest reach,
the long-awaited answering breach;
the night far gone, the day at hand:
His Consummation to expand;
the Bride shall rise, Bridegroom renewing;
world, arresting; grave, undoing;
the Rose of Sharon, the Prince of Peace,
whose laud shall never fade or cease;
the nations throng the glass-gold way
up gilded steps of endless day,
to lay their laurels at His feet:
the Lamb amidst the mercy seat;
saints wearied hear, with victory won,
"thou good and faithful child, well done!"
one little word, His triumph thrum,
the clarion call: "behold, I come!"
