a tree, unmoving, stretches up its arms

to grasp the day's remaining lucent charms;

its branches sport a crown of golden red,

its luster steals my gaze and lifts my head;


not long, and all the beams have journeyed on,

the tawny smile and tender warmth have gone;

yet here True Light's reminder I descry:

that His unfailing love will never die.
