the chill of dawn lies heavy on the air

the cool encroach of dew about my feet

the sanguine blush of sunlight, warm and fair

the scent of water, redolent and sweet

the rose and pearly vestige of the moon

the darting squirrel—a flash of golden red

the silent splashes of the diving loon

the carefree clouds that scurry overhead

the soaring eagle, outstretched and aloft

the plaintive call that hovers on the breeze

the calm and quiet when the wind is soft

the touch of gold that crowns the rustling trees

in still and small and silent things I see,

my God unveils His majesty to me

a matin sonnet

sounding out the wonders

of a sunny morning on the shore

of Moss Lake, WI

titled from "This Is My Father's World"
